v0.117.0-rc28 Whole Worlds
2026-10-26
Everything in rc27, plus volumetric fog that costs a fraction of what it did, and parked craft that sleep with wind or a thruster on them.
Volumetric fog
Lit volumetric fog was worked out separately for every pixel of every surface and of the sky, the whole way from the camera, so at 1080p it could take most of a frame. It is now worked out once for every four pixels, for the view as a whole, and every surface and the sky read that.
- The picture is the same: within two steps of 8-bit colour on average in our tests.
- Something with nothing beside it at its own depth, such as the edge of a building against the far ground, glass or a particle, still works out its own, so nothing takes on the fog of what is behind it.
- The fog's steps fall only where the fog is: a ray that leaves the layer early no longer spends steps on the clear air beyond.
- The sky is no longer worked out under things that cover it.
Resting under a held force
A craft with a force held on it every frame, such as wind, buoyancy or an idle thruster, never fell asleep, however still it stood. Now it falls asleep like any other once it stops moving, and it stays asleep while the force stays the same. If the force changes, it wakes.
Scripts
node.wakeandassembly.info(node).wakename the most recent cause. Once a body's own motion starts its count toward sleep again, it readsmovingorunsupported, not whatever woke it first.jointnow means a joint woke it from sleep or a motor drives it.forcemeans the force held on it changed while it slept.perf.frames()says how many fixed ticks each frame ran (ticks). A game catching up runs several in one frame, so a frame's physics divided by its ticks is what one tick costs.
Upgrading
Nothing to do. What you may notice:
- Craft and bodies that a script holds a steady force on now fall asleep when
they stand still. A script that checked
node.asleepto see whether its force was doing anything should check the craft's speed instead. - Applying a force to a sleeping craft wakes it at the next physics step, not at once, and only if the force differs from the one it fell asleep under.
