v0.116.0-rc5 Lands On Its Feet

2026-10-12 Engine

Everything in rc4, plus 2D bodies shaped like their art, and every web font format.

Bodies shaped like their sprites

A Rigidbody's shape can now be Polygon: an outline of up to eight corners in the 2D plane. It stands on that outline, so a character drawn from the feet up rests with its feet on the floor, and a diamond balances on its point. Like a box, it keeps its orientation rather than tumbling.

  • Add Component ▸ Physics ▸ Rigidbody on a sprite traces the opaque pixels of the frame it shows. The body covers the character, not the empty space around it in its frame. A sprite whose frame is solid edge to edge and centred on its node still gets a box, which is already exact.
  • In the Inspector, trace from art traces the outline again, for after you redraw a sprite. Each corner has an x and y you can type. + corner splits the longest edge, − removes a corner, and box resets to a rectangle. depth is how thick it is.
  • When the sprite flips, its body flips with it, and it scales with the node.
  • A Static polygon body is a wall, floor or ramp in that shape, turned with its node.
  • From a script: node:setBodyOutline{ vec2(-0.4, 0), vec2(0.4, 0), vec2(0, 1) }. Use it for a body that changes shape, like a crouch or a roll.

The outline is always kept convex. A corner dragged inward past its neighbours drops out instead of making a dent.

WOFF2 fonts

.woff2 fonts now work anywhere a font goes: Project Settings ▸ UI font, ui.make, draw.text. A font downloaded for a website works as it comes. A damaged file, or a font collection, says so in the Console and the text uses the built-in font.

Upgrading

Nothing to do. Bodies already in your scenes keep their shapes. Only a body you add to a sprite from now on starts as a traced polygon. If you want a box, pick Box as its shape.
